What Is The Art of Self-Defense?

The Art of Self Defense employs structures of codified procedures and fighting traditions as their groundwork for self-defense. The art of self-defense is comprised of many self-defense techniques whose aim is to stop a person from hurting you or others. When talking about “the art of self-defense,” people relate it with martial arts which is something that is thought of as both art and science. They are generally related with a variety of belief systems, such as Judo with Shinto or Jiu Jitsu with Confuciansim. While each style has unique facets that make it different against other disciplines, their common characteristic is the systemization of fighting techniques. Training procedures involve mental exercises, breathing techniques and application.   The art of self-defense diverge widely, but it can be sorted into three groups: weapons training, striking, and grappling.

The most popular styles of striking disciplines are karate, muay thai, taekwondo, and boxing. Some of the martial arts that focuses on grappling are Judo, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Sambo, wrestling, and Aikido. Lastly, the art of self-defense that feature weapons training are fencing, arnis, and kendo.   The Asian disciplines usually merges the art of self-defense with other fields such as medicine. This is very apparent in Chinese martial arts where in they utilize bone setting, acupuncture, and acupressure to complement their acrobatic techniques. The art of self-defense also has its roots in religion where the instructors are either priests or nuns.

The art of self-defense as well as the preservation of life is the aim of martial arts. Martial arts training now also gives some benefit both for the physical and spiritual. Consistent training in the art of self-defense improves the practitioner’s physical fitness.

The body movement coordination, strength, and stamina all become better since the training improves the breathing habits as well as the muscular system.It also improves the body’s various systems.    Last but not the least, the art of self-defense also develops the character, sense of respect, and justice due to the training that concentrates on self-control and self-determination, It is an approach to explore more about oneself and his or her relationship to the environment.
